Focus
Urban-Econ interprets the economic development profile as well as expected changes in the economy and local population in terms of the required energy development infrastructure. The economic development inputs for the energy sector studies usually require a dynamic assessment of demographic and economic historic and the most probable future trends. It is interpreted from a socio-economic and economic point of view to determine the present and future electricity requirements of households and the economy.
Approach
The results of demographic and local economic profiling and potential analysis focus on the energy needs and requirements of the various user sectors as determined by the characteristics and trends of each. The study will therefore interpret the current and projected profiles in terms of where and when imbalances between energy requirements and supply are most likely to occur. This information will inform decisions for the timeous development of energy infrastructure options, the spatial location and level of intensity per user group. An integrated approach is followed to involve all sectors relevant to energy, focusing on particular aspects of user sectors, such as:
- Profile and projections,
- Socio-economic characteristics and social issues, and
- Local Economic profile and processes.
