The recommendations varied from the creation of specific institutions that will deal with economic development to the implementation of industrial, tourism and commercial projects.

Ndwedwe Local Development Plan: Urban-Econ together with Iyer Rothaug Collaborative was commissioned to complete a local development plan for the Ndwedwe town area. Because of the lack of participation of local councillors the project has been put on hold until the necessary councillors can be identified to ensure sufficient participation by the responsible local authority and communities.

Coronation Economic Regeneration Study: Urban-Econ completed an economic regeneration study for the Coronation area as part of the Department of Provincial and Local Government Affair's Social Plan Fund programme. Various development projects have been identified within the area forming part of a Coronation agri-village business concept being developed for the area.

Emnambithi Local Economic Regeneration Study: Urban Econ was appointed by the Emnambithi Local Municipality to compile the Local Economic Regeneration Study for Ladysmith and the rural communities of the locality. The Study is aimed at analysing the local economy and thereby finding economic strategies that will make optimum use of local resources to create sustainable job opportunities and means of redressing economic challenges such as retrenchment and unemployment. A significant component of the Study is the identification of projects, which promote local ownership, local jobs and local reinvestment and illustrate the potential to revitalise the local economy of Emnambithi.

Graskop LER: Urban-Econ was appointed to conduct a Local Economic Regeneration study for this area. Responsible for the analysis of the tourism potential of the areas as well as the formulation of a business plan for the development of a "Cultural tourist attraction".

Ekurhuleni Early Warning System: The need for the project arises from the fact that various businesses in the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan area are experiencing problems with respect to sustainability in a declining regional economy. This manifests in high retrenchments, which exacerbate the already high levels of unemployment, poverty and social inequalities. The Early Warning System (EWS) will be designed in such a way to flag potential problem areas, which should be targeted for pro-active intervention.

Zastron EWS: Observations in general have indicated that the economy of Zastron is on decline. As an initial step in addressing business development and investment in Zastron, the local authorities proposed that the LED study be an EWS type study and that this study be based on the EWS model for regular systematic and scientific analysis of business economic trends in the Zastron CBD. The EWS developed for Zastron is of such a nature that it is able to timeously identify the impending economic decline, and pro-actively intervene in the economy in order to cushion the expected decline.
