SOCIAL & LABOUR PLANS

Focus

The local mining industry is increasingly pressured to provide direct and indirect assistance in the social, socio-economic and economic development arena as part of their responsibility towards labour and the environment. An example of the added dimensions of responsibility for the mining sector is the conversion of the old order rights and the associated formulation of Social & Labour Plans, as a pre-condition for any mineral and petroleum resource exploitation and granting of mining rights in South Africa. Urban-Econ provides economic, social, corporate social investment and human resource development solutions in local industry.

Approach

The solutions provided by Urban-Econ are of such nature that it incorporates a broad range of development principles but relating specifically to aligning internal needs and requirements of the client in a manner that supports the surrounding developmental environment.

Urban-Econ
specialises in economic and social impact analyses of all development aspects and links the outcomes with fitting strategic & tactical management guidelines. Where applicable, national priorities are included in the form of  “non-negotiable” targets referring to issues such as human resources, employment equity and community re-investment.

The provision of strategic and tactical recommendations regarding the developmental activities of local industry are drafted so that the positive developmental impacts are maximised. The measurement of development impacts, such as the socio-economic impacts of an envisaged project, is undertaken from an objective perspective. In these instances, a proper understanding of the context as well as the dynamics of the economy and socio-economic environment is required.
